Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD is already a huge system with 3 large hospitals that has recently embarked on a series of cashless acquisitions, creating a large integrated system of both hospitals and community providers.
I think this will ultimately benefit patients from an integrated system standpoint, but how will it affect costs? The wrinkle, of course, is that MD has an all-payer system. Can all-payer fight back against hospital mergers on cost?
C’mon, you have to blog on this, these are like your guy’s two favorite topics.
Keep up the great work.
