Obama wants more value-based insurance design. What is it?

The fact sheet that accompanied Obama’s speech today included the following goal:

Give IPAB additional tools to improve the quality of care while reducing costs, including allowing it to promote value-based benefit designs that promote proven services like prevention without shifting costs to seniors.

What’s value-based benefit design? (It’s also called value-based insurance design or V-BID.) I’ve written about this, but not lately. Here’s a tutorial post. Here are some more.

Also, you should be aware of the clearinghouse for V-BID publicaitons and information is at the University of Michigan’s Center for Value-Based Insurance Design. Check it out!
