According to the Dartmouth Atlas, in 2007, Maryland’s Medicare reimbursement per enrollee was 1.08, slightly above the national average. Inpatient short-stay reimbursement per enrollee was 1.36; inpatient short stay reimbursement per enrollee was 0.27.
Short answer: unit costs 3% below US average; number of units 8% above US average.
We need to control unit price, unit volume and quality, simultaneously.
