I’m so sorry, PhDs

I need to write this post so I don’t have to type the same words by email when I quote people with PhDs in Upshot posts. Henceforth, I will send people links to this post when I ask for a quote.

By Upshot editorial guidelines, only MDs will get the “Dr” prefix. PhDs and everyone else will be “Mr” or “Ms” as appropriate.

I do not endorse this practice. I can do nothing about it. Yes, I have asked. However, if you wish to write an editor about this, I can provide an email address.

All of this applies to Aaron too. He wrote a longer post about this and other stuff we don’t control.
