There will be a lot written about health reform’s one-year anniversary, which is officially this Wednesday. Here’s my quick take: we’re only one year into a multi-year process of implementation. The big items, like the exchanges and the mandate, don’t even start to come on board for nearly three more years. The Cadillac tax doesn’t kick in for almost seven more years. Serious cost control that is sure to work is, well, nowhere on the horizon.
Translation: that’s at least three more years, and likely many more, of literal and figurative re-litigation. Like political fights? They’re just getting started. Don’t like them? Get used to it.
Health reform at year one: you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
