• Grok This!

My parents, who are responsible directly and indirectly for all that I know, e-mailed me to tell me that the term “grok” (first used on this blog in a post earlier today) was totally new to them. In fact I had consciously avoided the term in the past posts thinking it too much slang. But it is so useful I’m not going to be bashful about it from now on.

Anyway, what’s the age above which the average American doesn’t grok “grok”? Or is it not an age thing?

    • Is it an age thing or a reading habit thing?

I think it may be a little of both, for those old enough to remember the entrance into our cultural consciousness, but after that, it’s continued usage may be tied to those who are avid readers of science fiction.

    • Yeah, agree. Not really an age thing. More an sf readership thing, though probably a little more commonly known by those under 50 than those over.
