Answer to “How many stars can we see?”

The answer to the question posed on Friday, “How many stars can we see with our (naked) eyes?” is 2,500, according to the NY Times Oct. 10 Sky Watch (sorry, it is not online). Answers of the same order of magnitude are provided elsewhere. My incorrect guess was on the order of 10,000.
