Yesterday, Meet the Press posted
documents obtained by the Washington Post’s Bob Woodward that show a grand bargain proposal the White House was prepared to make in order to reach agreement with the House Republicans last year.
I’ve posted them below. Notice, in particular, that the White House proposed “alteration of the eligibility age for Medicare,” which should be interpreted as an adjustment upwards (to decrease federal expenditures). I have no reason to believe that the Administration is not still interested in this idea, but I do have reason to believe it’s not a particularly promising avenue for bending the health care cost curve system wide.
