Below you will find links to our new podcast. Though we do cover the idea of political feasibility and whether single payer is or is not feasible, we also discuss some other reform proposals, like those of Rep. Paul Ryan.

    Single Payer

    • Why not national single payer now?

Rep. Ryan’s Medicare and Medicaid Plans

    • For cost control, Medicare and vouchers don’t add up
    • Rep. Ryan’s proposal is not Rhode Island’s
    • GOP Medicare privatization plan is like employer-sponsored insurance. And that’s not a good thing.

First, one must address whether healthcare should include public for-profit organizations. Removing healthcare from the public corporate structure does not mean socialism. For example, I checked Forbes last year (2011) and picked 8 CEO’s of healthcare industries and for their most recent 5-year compensation, these 8 received a total of over $753,000,000 – over 3/4 BILLION $$$ – just to 8 individuals. This is wrong.

Second, no one addresses the horrific inefficiency of the healthcare system. About 700 government agencies (federal and state combined), thousands of providers and payers, 10′s of thousands just to handle all the acceptance and denials and qualification verifications, horrific redundancies – a total money-sucking mess.
