Links, credit, and blog viability

This, from Brad DeLong, is really important.

It may not be obvious to most people, but the viability of TIE, and likely other blogs, depends on links. If other bloggers read us (or don’t but should given their subject area), then write similar content later and don’t link, we notice. We get annoyed. But more than that, we lose the ability to demonstrate our relevance. This matters to us personally, of course. But it also matters to those generous enough to support the blog.

The blogosphere runs on links. They’re cheap to provide and crucial to those who deserve them. No links, no demonstrable relevance, no funding, no more TIE. Got it?
