When I think about bipartisan political action based on broad consensus, I think of things like the Iraq War, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", the Defense Of Marriage Act, "No Child Left Behind", extraordinary rendition, Guantanamo Bay, and the USA PATRIOT Act (and its renewal). Perhaps we've been <em>too</em> efficient at implementing certain kinds of policies. I’ve come to be (perhaps overly) cautious about bipartisanship, compromise, and progress.
